I sailed with chinese pirates is a 1930s travel journel by a "writer" who sailed with chinese pirates. Mostly the ladrone pirates. Its an interesting book, the original edition i read in the 1990s has a photo section that showed the pirate queen on her deck, and several junks sinking after a quick battle.

The ship in which i am interested in is the pirate queens war junk. In description it is similar to the amati pirate junk, but that model isnt right in most things. The ship had standard european style deck guns, but there is a caption in the book that has always bothered me.

The ship is described as having horizontal mounted and running gun ports. And the gun ports were supposed to be steel/iron/ armor plate.. the bulwarks may have had aditional plate bolted on the outside.

This is a ship i think the chinese companies would have wanted to play with
