G'day all.
We would like to add this thread, so our fellow family member can write down (if they wanted to) their health problems etc.. Remember that we are all family here and I'm sure that there will be plenty of support from your fellow siblings.
Remember the model is only one part of our hobby, but there will be no hobby with out the modelers. So fellow siblings, let us know what is your issues, and remember this quote.
A Problem Shared
is a
Problem Halved!

To kick start this thread, I would like to be the first to discuss my health issues.

You may all know me, but those who don't, my name is Greg.
I have been living with Parkinson's disease for the past 7 or 8 years, and sometimes it has been difficult when it comes to our great hobby of model ship building . I have learnt new ways to overcome my disease's physical effects, which at first hindered my build. The main symptom, and probably the best known regarding Parkinson's in that my right hand kept on shaking. As you all know you need a steady hand in this game.
But preserving, I discovered that there are unconventional ways around that.
Having Parkinson's there are numerous symptoms that I have to overcome. Some I can, some of these, I'm still finding ways around them.
Some of you may know about Parkinson's disease and there symotoms, but those who don't these are (mine only) : very low blood pressure, sometimes to the degree of blackouts, night sweats, where I have to change 3 or 4 times a night. (This makes me very tired during the day), very poor short term memory. I'm constantly looking for tools that I just used. Other symptoms are is that my speaking. I can't get the words out, and when I do it's the wrong word. This can be very embarrassing, but that is what I have to live with. Another one, which effect this hobby is that I'm very slow. Doing a simple thing takes me up to 8 times longer to do now, than before PD.
About a year ago, I was diagnosed with Crohn's disease on top of my Parkinson's.
This has it's normal problems that all Crohn's sufferers has to endure, such as a blocked bowel and constantly bleeding from my bowel.
But it effects, has effected my absorption of my Parkinson's disease medication a lot. To a point that I have had 6 full blown 'spastic' attacks of PD. The latest was the worst where I was bedridden for 3 or 4 days. With these attacks it feels like every nerve in my body are being electrified. It's not very pleasant. As a consequence i had no control over my head, arms or leg movements and they were all twitching badly.
Most of the time I'm ok, and I'm living with it.
I am not complaining, as I can see many people worse off than me.
Well that's my health problems. It's feels good to share it with you all.
So happymodeling
Greg

Interessting to read this, Greg. Every day we need to remember, that without health the life is differnt. In our routine, in the stress, from the everyday life this fact is often forgotten. Our hobby depends a lot of functions from our body. Every hobby, i think. I am now 45 and i can see, or better no see, how my eyes are worsen every year more. Is´t normal in this age, but it shows that the future has a lot of surprises for me that i don´t will like.

G'day Oliver.
Thank you for your support and understanding. I know as we get older, our bodies starts to break down. I will pray that none of our family in SOS, will be touched anymore by health issues.
I saw a number sticker once many years ago and it read:
Age is a Fatal Disease!
I have to agree.

Here another one with crohn. I am sitting or half lying in the emergency room of the hospital. One bonuss with crohn is a fistula. A canal in your skin as small as a hair that gets infected and became as big as about 10 cm long. I cant sit now because ite is at the place where you sit between the legs. I have to wait until the pressure is so big that my skin burst or that the docter cuts it open in 20 min from now. This hobby keeps me going to enjoy every Day with handicaps and the found solutions to solve it. Hope you find all the solutions to make live and hobby easyer and that you can continue this hobby for a long time from now. Oops docter is comming. Hope i can sit again in andere hour or so. Keep it up m8!

G'day Pat
Having Crohn's is like a pain in the ar#e. Oh that's right we get that also.
So you are in emergency right now with Crohn's? Why are you there and for what symptom?
That's a coinsurance, I'm just about to go there now. I've been bleeding about 1/2 to 1 cup of blood 7 to 8 times a day for 21 days. My wife been telling me to go to the hospital and I say 'nah, I hate hospitals, they can't help me there'.
But sitting on the 'John' for 10 minutes until the blood stops is so tiring.
I might take my wife orders.

The pressure is much lesser now but still hurts. Please take youre wife advice and go. Want to see you longer here on the forum.

what I hate to grow old is all that comes next, the illnesses things you can not do anymore and used to laugh, but yes what can we say, I think we should take life as it comes, two weeks ago I was in the hospital with a thromboze, not as bad as what you and Pat go through, but it does make you think
Greg listen to the woman, they know what's right for us and do what she says
Greetings

G'day Willy
THROMBOSIS is not a thing you should take easy. It can be life threatening!
Parkinson's and Crohn's are both annoying, but not as dangerous as thrombosis. So take it easy my friend.
I'm not going to the hospital today, this is one day that I don't want to spend time there, because it's my wife and mine 33rd wedding anniversary. So no visit today.
Happymodeling

Thanks Uwe! We had a very easy one. Luz didn't want to go out at all. I think she wanted me to have a good rest.
Beside that, I had to cancel our booking (which I had to booked last month) at restaurants on Wednesday because of the bleeding.
Next year. Will be a lot more romantic.

Happy weddingday m8! Please take care of yourself next week. Ik cant sit again wound still open (have to keep it open for couple days) but building little bit again.

I Hate
Hospitals!
Been here at the emergency department, for hours and hours. Even though I'm still bleeding a lot, my body is replacing the hemoglobin to a low/normal range. It looks like I'll be going home 'soon'.
Praised the Lord
I have to see my specialist ASAP.
I'msohappy :D

Greg

Hate them too but happy they are there. Good you went to see the doctor. You have only 1 body the home of your soul. So Be carefull and take good care of it .

I will memattie. The doctor at the hospital said my hemoglobin was low, but wasn't low enough for a transfusion. It was 10 and they only do blood transfusion at 8. I asked what's the normal range and he said for a male 13 to 17.5.
He told me to contact my Crohn's specialist tomorrow and get the first emergency appointment that he has.
My wife answered for me, and said he'll do that for shaw and gave me 'that' look.
Oops! I'm in trouble if I don't.
Thanks for your help mate. Hope things get better for you on the whole. ;) Sorry for the bad pun. :p
Keepwellmyfriend.
Greg

Seriously Pat. You take care of yourself as well. Joking among friends are ok, but when the health issues are in place, all I want for you to get better as soon as possible.
My wife told me no working on the model, until I stop bleeding. She said being in the garage and if I collapse, things could get bad quickly. I going to follow her orders this time (only).
You do the same from your admiral!
