A good day, my OcCre Ulises Tugboat arrived after a long wait.
Yes it’s 1:30 scale and 830mm long, and set up for radio control.
Bought it from Premier Models in the UK, but they are in the process of moving premises,
so it took a while before they shipped it out.
They use FedEx, and they are fast, only 5 days to Melbourne Australia, and over the weekend.
I have built a couple of basic RC boats in my youth, about 50 years ago.
And I’m very much involved in RC, with cars, trucks and tanks, so I should know what I’m doing with this Tug.
I love the look of the classic old ships, but I could never cope with all that rigging.
About the only boats I could build would be something like a Schooner or Ketch etc.
Yes I like the look of Tugboats, and for a few reasons I was drawn to this model.
I have built their Stephenson’s Rocket and found that quite satisfying.
So I now have some understanding on how OcCre present their kits.
I like the colour picture build folder, but maybe a few more, and larger pics would be good.
And I like the full size, 1:1 drawings.
But it will be a few weeks before I start on this, I’m currently building both the Billings African Queen
and the Model Shipways 1:24 USN Picket Boat.
I’m building the AQ as RC and installing a MSM Steam Plant, #4038.
But I’m having a lot of issues to get the MSM plant to even bench run, it’s proving a little frustrating.
I was thinking of putting the same plant in the Ulises, but I’m now thinking of just using
a suitable slow revving electric motor.
And will be changing to a three blade Brass Prop.
Also, it has been said that having a steam plant in an enclosed space in a boat can be a problem,
and also means much harder access as compared to an open Launch such as the African Queen etc.
