USS Bonhomme Richard 1779 1:48 [COMPLETED BUILD]

Hi Oleg,

Can t you get them in birch in Canada?
For instance here in The Netherlands standard available in the supermarket for something like usd 1,50 per 400 pieces.
I check them by breaking them to see if it is birch or bamboo.

Well I checked several places and everything was bamboo, but of course this doesn't mean that I searched everywhere :) It was just quite tempting to pass the task to my parents-in-law :)

The kit has the number of canons as per the real ship. Not all the gunports were filled. So only 6 on the gundeck and only 6 on the quarterdeck. I bought additional canons and additional carriage parts to fill all the ports, so I will have 16 on the gundeck and 10 on the quarterdeck, together with 28 on the upperdeck this gives me 54.
The kit has the gundeck only where the last three ports are, as long as only them are supposed to be fittied with guns. But there is a false deck, actually just a horizontal frame to reinforce the internal structure. Its position is actually very close to the position of the real gundeck, so I used it to place the carriages. It has no bow, so for vertical alignment of the guns I sanded the wheels if I needed to lower them, or added pieces of planks if I neede to raise them.
I made sure that it's not possible to see the internal skeleton through the opened ports of the gundeck.

The ringbolt ends that hold the gun tackles. There should be the shank itself, the washer and the wedge, but making a wedge was too much for me, so only bolts and washers. I had to use CA glue to fix them together, so the darkening liquid would not work. I used black acrylic mat paint from a spray can.
For the shanks I used 0.8mm for gundeck and upper deck and 0.6mm for quarterdeck, although the diameters from the monograph are 0.83, 0.77 and 0.62 respectively.

Very good work on your gun-port lids - very accurate executed Thumbs-Up
Is this photo showing the work on the hinge?

Like @Maarten asked already, it would be very interesting to know the content of the kit in this respect....

Several details, that I don't know the English words for :)
(клюзы, шпигаты, шкив-гат)
Hi Oleg.
In English клюзы - Hawse holes, plank below the hawse holes called -bolster. Шпигаты - is Scuppers, and шкив-гат - is Fixed block\pulley.

Great progress and very accurate job. I assume the hawseholes as well as scuppers made from a brass tubing. What solution do you use to blacken them?

Дякую! :)
Yes, brass tubing, round for hawseholes and square for scuppers. I use either BlackenIt or a solution that I order from Russian online shop for modellers. No idea about composition, but it's twice cheaper :) Sometimes for small parts I also use acrylic mat paint for metal from spray cans. I doubt if on small parts anyone can tell if it's painted or blackened, and painting is better quality. Blackening often falls off. But only for small parts, I always blacken the big ones.

The planking of upperdeck
The planks in the kit for decks are given in 200mm length, which is not very convinient. I marked the joints in their correct places only for central part of the deck that will be seen.
The inner side planking. I didn't do spirketting and deck clamps, but I did waterways.
