Some time ago I came across a small spread of photos depicting the restoration of what proved to be the first builder's model of ACR-1. The model presented her as she was originally to be constructed: a three-masted barque-rigged / steam-driven hybrid. From what I could find out, when the admirals opted instead for a strictly steam-propelled warship, this model was set aside and an entirely new model...now on display at the Hampton Roads Naval Museum, I think...was crafted. Here's one of the photographs.
Does anyone know for certain where the restoration was taking place, if it has been completed, and if the model is now on public display? An admittedly cursory internet search resulted in "no joy." I find this snippet of maritime/US Navy/ship design/model shipwright history quite fascinating. Tight lines, gents.
