New design USS OREGON (BB3)

The hurricane deck is screwed down, the pilot house has been attached, and the middle boat skids with shelter roof are built (but not attached. Using the template included in the kit, the main deck stanchion holes are drilled.or1.jpgor2.jpgor3.jpg

OREGON this afternoon. The stacks, steam pipes, and center boat skids/shelter deck are not glued on yet, as I'm still fitting things. I'm also waiting for our caster to cast me some more fittings like the 8" gun barrels and the cowl vents.292631430_10227670018155660_7427260395126590425_n.jpg293442005_10227670018115659_5053082590984984579_n.jpg293655685_10227670017915654_745055487351650524_n.jpg

Wonderful model.
Can you give us some more details please. Is it a solid hull, and when would it be commercially available for sale ?

OREGON has a machine-carved laminated basswood hull, lots of laser-cut basswood and laserboard, cast britannia fittings, cast resin components, and photo-etched brass details. It is in 1/128 scale (3/32" to the foot) and is roughly 33" long. She is the same scale and general construction as the kits of MAINE and OLYMPIA that I developed in 2005, 2006. Back then, those kits sold for around $600, so suspect this one will be higher. I have nothing to do with price setting. The OREGON will probably be available mid-Fall.

Brackets for the boat davits and the starboard boat skids are on. The unfinished boat crane is just sitting in place. The brackets are .035" laser board. I really like this stuff as it is exceptionally strong for its size and cuts extremely well.

A wonderful model - I am looking forward ...

I finalized the plans for OREGON this week. There are two large (about 28" x 40") plans and forty spiral-bound 11" x 17" plans. The instruction manual will run about 40 pages. These are reduced copies of GAR.jpgMAIN DECK.jpgUntitled-1.jpgthe two large sheets and one of the smaller sheets.

For now the only way to get your hands in one of these models is to keep watching Ebay. It has come up a few times. Next time I see one I wil buy it.
