I have just opened a kit that I bought a couple of years ago - 1/50 scale Utrecht States Yacht 1746 by Thunderstorm Art Products. I haven't been able to find any information about the supplier and nothing comes up when I search SoS. What I am after is English translation of the instructions. The instructions are all in Chinese.

Some drawings of spars, sails and rigging are all in English, apparently produced by Cor Emke in Holland. This is odd because the model is only hull and deck. Presumably they are included in case a customer wishes to scratch build these items.

I have built POF models before, and the photos in the instruction manual are good, but I spent a lot on this model which contains a huge amount of beautiful carvings, and I would hate to miss something important.

Can anyone help with the instructions?

Hi Chris,

This is indeed a beautiful model. It is not Utrecht but the model was sold in China as Pegasus.
I know several build examples were present at the Chinese site 4hmodel.com.

The drawings of Cor Emke were most probably "borrowed" by the manufactorer but do have nothing in common with the kit.

I don't think there are English manuals of this kit as it was made for the Chinese market only.
You can try to yranslate it as you make a pdf of it and put a translator on it.

Maybe @Heinrich can help you as he knows the Chinese model market very well.

This is my built log full of detailed images. For Chinese instructions use Google translate and follow the drawings. There are other built logs I placed the links on my built.

Daniel, thank you so much for clarifying the identity of my kit. The name PEGASUS does not appear anywhere in the contents of my kit and the only clue to the name of the vessel was the inclusion of (now apparently irrelevant) drawings by Cor Emke. I believed that I had read a blog of this kit on SoS some time ago but as we get older memories can get confused with wishful thinking !!

I shall read your blog thoroughly and hope for a good result. Again, thank you.

Please, start a build log for us to follow and help on you built. This is a great kit with all the carvings to be built. You can also built the interior as Jeronimo and myself did.

Hi,
If you want to translate the instructions there are apps available through the play app store (free) which use AI to translate the printed characters, you will need a smart phone of reasonable modernity but they do work but expect some hilarity with the translations, in the west we do use specific names for most boat parts eg gratings scuppers etc the latter being listed as maybe drain ports or holes the chinese do not follow the same mantra so have fun.
Regards Tony

I think Seawatch books Statenjacht Utrecht two books combination can be helpful in the build.
There is an interesting explanation from Ab Hoving in DUTCH STATENYACHT 1767 by Jeronimo thread regarding the true nature of this yacht.
I think Ivan Tranj exacturated on the original idea and kit manufacturer exacturated on top of that (pictures of Ivan model are in abondance so you can compare).
I did go out on a search for any original drawings and plans of so called Pegasus but to no avail. Ivan refused to share, stating they were given to him in private.
I did get the kit and put together the frames, found carvings to be not too good of a quality. Eventually change my mind and now with help of additional decor from Igor Kapinos, going to convert it to Peter the Great's yacht "St Peter".
Below is what I believe, was the inspiration for Ivans model
