I wanted to make another head of a warrior and on the internet I found an AI picture of a Viking. Dangerous look with tattoos beard and helmet.

Could I carve this with lots of details? I gave it a try, took my time and make it a little bigger as I usual do. 45x30 mm. is not that big but enough to give it details.

Total carving time is about 14 hours in 5 days

The end result in shellac.

amazing carving :)OkayExclamation-Mark

Always admired carvers an sculptors who can make people and animals from raw materials, a real art form. Just a little side to that, vikings did not have horned helmets other than in Hollywood or AI generated images/fantasy art. Love this carving though, superb work.

LOVE the carving!
After reading Graham's comment I did a little digging and everything I found confirms the helmets were without horns. One of the things I found is an interesting article that can be seen at https://www.history.com/news/did-vikings-really-wear-horned-helmets.

Thanks guys, you are correct, but when you talk about Vikings they are always with these kind of helmets, it's something history did to the Vikings. We have here a cartoon serie in the Netherlands (Belgium) called Wicky the Viking, and there are hoorns on their helmets, we grew up with this. Actually I don't care if it is correct or not. I like the image in this way.
i know how difficult an intricate carving like that can be Stephan. You did a fantastic job of it.
Thanks Roger, your right, it takes time and you have to be thinking in front. You can't ad wood.
Hello
Stephan your sculptures are beautiful I know I'm repeating myself but I'll say it again you have a talent boy . Greetings Mirek
Thanks again Mirek
So good, Stephan!

Best regards John,
Thanks John, I believe everybody can learn this, if you just know the basics and practise. Just like the rest in our hobby, there is a need for practise to achieve the end result. Some need more practise and some are quick learners.
very good work
Thanks Uwe

You are absolutely right. My comment was not intended to detract from your artwork in any way at all, I actually love the carving horns and all ;-)

WOW! That is wonderful work my friend. Anyone who has attempted to carve heads/faces understands how difficult it. The proportions of all the facial elements are just great. The finish on the wood is fantastic as well. You've breathed some life into that Viking. He looks like he is ready to sack some village somewhere.
