Just received my next project from Kolderstok in the Netherlands , the VOC ‘Yacht’ Duyfken , she will be build in Oak as the original and Replica , lucky me the replica built in Fremantle , Western Australia has her berth at the Australian Maritime Museum in Darling Harbour , Sydney .
The history of this little exploring vessel is fascinating as are the voyages of the Replica , a fantastic read is a book by Graeme Cocks ‘Through Darkest Seas’ describing the voyages of the replica around the globe and finally her permanent berth in Sydney

Good morning Robert. I see these Dutch ships have “grabbed” you. I look forward to this build- enjoy. Cheers Grant

Keel Laid , as you can see the deck laying is also in progress , I placed the Hatch grating first up followed by the double planking next to it for a tight fit , I also omitted the extra Middle Support 14M to create space for the Rudder-stock , the Rudder will be attached with Hinges from a 3rd party and movable , to bend planking I used an Iron , and bender to get the right shape and curve , a great source of information ‘to Build a Ship ‘ by Robert Garvey. ,

Hi Grant,
I just find these VOC ships fascinating, the history way back , not always glorious , nevertheless that’s history and where you live is part of it as well , Kaap de Goede Hoop , the replica of the Duyfken a real gem and made history herself to replicate the voyage of her Namesake in the 16th century , at the moment she is in Pittwater as part of the Wooden Boat Festival at the Motor Yacht Club in Newport and will sail back to Darling Harbour (Sydney) tomorrow I guess , I am a member and Volunteer of the Maritime Museum so heaps of opportunity to explore her.

There were more than one Duyfkens built by the Dutch around 1600. The one which came to Australia (the replica of which was built in Freemantle) was said to be built in 1602 - correct me if I am wrong.

Quit possible Janos, this ship had been in service for a while and suitable for the expedition and exploration of the ‘South lands and Nova Guinea in 1606

Sofar the progress on ‘Duyfken’ I have painted the Hull with a sanding sealer and attached the rudder and hinges , while we are at it , took my wife on the replica ‘Duyfken’ for a luncheon cruise in Sydney harbour last week , needless to say she used her engines but sailed back to Darling harbour to her berth at the Australian Maritime Museum

Good morning Robert. Nice progress. It must be really cool to take a trip on the ship you are building, even though a replica, as it must give one a great sense of scale and structural perception. Lovely pics. Cheers Grant

The Channels are fixed including the deadeyes ,however dispute! The chains according the plans and yes I followed through a hole in the wale underneath ,this is wrong if you look at the pictures of the ‘Duijfken replica , ‘to build a ship’ , they are attached above the wale , I am not going to change that , also I don’t intend to paint her and keep the model ‘A La Naturel’ my choice

Hi Robert, Like @GrantTyler Grant said earlier, it looks like the Dutch ships have conquered you! I cannot believe what a quick builder you are - you are almost at a stage where you can start the serious part of rigging the Duyfken. She is looking very pretty!

Thanks Heinrich! What I find fascinating is the history , the replica has her own history as well , haven’t heard from you for a while , hope you are okay , anyway have a lovely Christmas and a prosperous and healthy 2025! Cheers Rob
