It looks like I’ve finally found the right state of mind and the time to attempt my first scratch-built wooden model of a Waquiez Amphora. The advantage is that I have access to some basic information from Waquiez forums, all the photos I took while performing maintenance tasks, and the boat docked close. I sailed this boat for many years in the Caribbean, until my career takes me to other seas.

The first step was choosing the scale of the ship. Since I don’t want my lack of experience to work against me, I decided on a 1:40 scale, which seems to offer a good balance between ease of construction and the level of detail I’d like to achieve.

After a few months on hold, this project is finally moving forward. I am currently working on the basic drawings for the keel and frame (rib) model sections, and spending some much-needed time using Fusion 360 to get it done.

Not sure about next steps... probably some printing, cardboard cutting and testing on how to interlock the ribs with the keel...
