Where to find plans for US Cargo Ships

I am looking for plans for the SS African Comet (1962) (hull number C4-S-58a) and/or the SS Pioneer Myth (1954) official number 267033. I have tried getting around the US National Archives site with no luck. I have just emailed Ingalls Shipbuilding and hopefully will hear back from them, but if anyone has a suggestion that would be great.

Thanks

Allan

Allan,

How about the Mariners Museum, Newport News, VA? I see that the nearby Newport News Shipbuilding and Drydock Co built several C-4 vessels.

According to Wikipedia: Like other MARAD designs, this is a case where a basic hull form was used for several different applications. So, this may be a case where if you can find an accurate hull drawing you will have to fill in the details for your particular ship.

The design was apparently versatile enough that the basic hull form could be stretched by adding a mid body section. You can do the same thing to fit the hull to your particular ship as the mid body was parallel and the lines fore and aft did not change.

Thanks Roger,
I will definitely look at this. There were six ships built to the African Comet design so if can find these that would be best but barring that, your suggestion may be a good alternate route.

Model Shipwright has plans for U.S.N.S Comet which I believe is the same ship. Take a look and good luck!
