Here is a miniature showing the British barque Jhelum, how she may have appeared when beached in a damaged condition at Port Stanley, Falkland Islands in 1870, after receiving a battering off Cape Horn. Completed in Liverpool, England, in 1849, the Jhelum remained a prominent feature of Stanley harbour until last year, when the ancient hull finally collapsed, leaving just a heap of "firewood!" The photographs were taken in 1982, the last one showing myself, sitting on the windlass that had fallen through into the forepeak when the deck collapsed many years ago.
