Xebec of 1753 - Plank on Bulkhead Kit by Amati in 1/60 Scale - Build by Smithy

Farewell to building ships then?

Probably, but "never say never".

The last few years have provided an interesting excursion into new materials, new historical period, a new genre of vehicles but now the novelty has worn off, I find old school wooden ship models dreadfully boring. There are too many phases of a build where I find myself doing the same thing over, and over, and over again sometimes for months. It's like factory work to me and that has never suited my temperament. I'm a daredevil thrill-seeking sort of guy, an adrenaline junkie without equal so it's back to Airfix kits for me! ;)

What of your Junkers?

Funny you should ask that Graham, because it's sitting next to me as I write. There's a bowl of water too and I'm about to tidy a few seams prior to fitting the seats and canopy. Then it will be time to paint. Next in line is the Airfix Jaguar, which will be a very nostalgic build for me.

Kinda curious Smithy, where does that leave your ZHL Le Requin?

Hi Dan. Having admired your relentless work on those 97 (?) frames I see Requin only as an egregious "same thing over, and over, and over again" nightmare. I bought the kit from a charity shop (Goodwill store?) and I suspect that's where I will be leaving it in due course. I wonder how many times it's been optimistically bought and sadly sold...

Well Smithy, your plastic renditions of older war planes are among the finest I have seen in this forum. I'll be looking forward to seeing your Airfix Jaguar, hopefully you plan on a build log for it.

Sorry to hear you are relegating the ship to the loft Smithy.
I'm working on the Amati kit as well and yours was the only log I've found that has managed the curved deck planking (well done) and you tried to solve the issue with the bulkhead/bulwark angles.
I'm trying to decide if I should do the curved deck as well, I love the look but suspect it will also be a real headache.
