Looking at Petersson, (which I know is describing one English ship, and I am on a French model) I'm confused about the way yards are held up, and the purpose of the various ropes which seem to duplicate each other. is this really duplication? There seem to be differences on different yards. Are the jeers removed once the sling is attached?
Jeers - running rigging to adjust height of yard
Yard Tye - running rigging to adjust height of yard
Halyard - running rigging to adjust height of yard
Sling - immoveable served ropes to hold the yard up
Truss pendants - running rigging that hold the yard tight against the mast (sometimes substituted by parrels)
Nave Lines - running rigging to adjust the height of the truss pendants and therefore the yard.
