Thanks for the validation. I think it might work for a couple other deck furnishings too

I made up a little jig to drill the nail holes in the chain plates.
I drilled down through it into the plans and the spacing was perfect. I was going to box in the back where the brass strip would just slot into place for drilling but I would have to make for jigs. I have zero confidence in duplicating the hole spacing twice nevermind four times.
Best regards

I have been doing BF a mental exercise thing to increase my problem solving skills but I'm still undecided and lack confidence in the method I have decided for drilling the chain plates.
I'm going back to the build logs to see how close my solution comes to the people who know what they're doing did.

I would try to crimp the chainplate around the nail using needle nose pliers. As Dockattner stated if you anneal the brass it will be much easier to shape and drill through.
Thank you, I'll try annealing.

I marked the chainplates with a lack marker and scratched a line for the elevation of the bolt holes. Unfortunately when I pulled the chainplates out to punch the locations for drilling the tightness of the rails scraped off the marked area leaving it blank.
Back to the drawing board.

Hi Ted. You can mark the place of the hole on the dry-fitted chainplates with a needle. Just a little pressure is enough. With some light from beside for sure you will see the mark in the brass.

Thank you Peter,
I was at the point where I understood they would have to be marked in place.
I have assembled one deadeye chainplate combination.
I found the nails supplied with t kit won't fit as the holes are too small. Luckily I have some smaller ones purchased earlier that fit.
I closing, this whole process is not as difficult as I dreaded.
Best regards
Ted

I'm using the three nail trick provided by a fellow if this site. (Sorry, I don't remember who I should credit.). Followed by clamping in the tweezers.
The assembly becomes effortless. I used a touch of CA glue to attach the nail.

I just received the blocks from Drydock Models at 2.5 and 3.5 mm. Certainly the smaller appears to small for me having any hope of using. It also appears it will disappear into the ropes at this scale.
Can someone tell me what size blocks the used.
Best regards
Ted
