Why does it matter if it’s fictional? I heard it was based on an actual ship. And all kits are based on something. Even the ones people claim to be historically accurate, leave a lot to interpretation and speculation. Look at Vasa…how long was it claimed to be blue before discovering it was red. But how many of these ships still exist for reference, or the people who built them? And where are all the original plans?I had look at the kit a couple of times. There is nothing wrong with the quality of the materials. This kit is a enhanced copy of the Mantua/Panart kit. However, the San Felipe is a fictional model of a generic first rate spanish Ship.
Good to hear since I just purchased this kit. Lol. All is good gentleman ,all builds have some deviations and that makes this hobby cool. ENJOYWhy does it matter if it’s fictional? So when it comes down to it, all ship kits are somewhat fictitious, based on what information is available, assumed and speculated…all based on the period of the ship and the country of origin.
So I would not be deterred by whether or not it was an actual ship. It’s a work of art when built well. Worthy of being displayed. And the fun of building and the challenges that come with it will not be effected by its authenticity…just saying.![]()

Hope you enjoy building the SF as much as I did. I did the Panart kit a few years ago and it was a lot of fun with some interesting challenges.Good to hear since I just purchased this kit. Lol. All is good gentleman ,all builds have some deviations and that makes this hobby cool. ENJOY
My remark about the fictional model was not made to put the kit down. Yes, it is a great kit and a beautyful model. I build the Panart version myself. I just wanted to point out that most models are based on a existing ship, this one is not.
