I recently set aside, for now, my build of a Nordlandsjekt that I began before transplant surgery left me with neuropathy in my hands. It was necessary, due to the fine detail work that it requires and my hands, for the time being, are simply not up to the task. I left a note on that log referring to this post and I am so grateful for the supportive remarks from those who were following the sporadic progress that my situation has caused. Thank you all so very much.

I am going to begin this log with some historical background that I'm still working on putting together. The story behind this subject is something I did not expect when I first looked at it and it's something that I want this community to have in its literature. It's an amazing story of what happened when the Nazis encountered folks with Viking ancestors. So please bear with me in putting this together over the next few days and I am doing my very best not to disappoint.

Should make a very interesting log. Good luck with the build.
Are these kits still available, guess we'll get a chance to evaluate the kit during you building process.

Sadly, the other build I have on hold for the time being has the same status as Froya. Mr. Wisloff of Norway lost his small manufacturing facility in 2015 to a fire and lost his life's work to that point. I've attempted to contact him to encourage him to license his kits to another manufacturer but have received no response. It may be that he doesn't have a capacity to conduct English correspondence. It's highly likely that others have encouraged him to do so as well. At the point in time where I became aware of him and his work, Piel Craftsmen of Massachusetts had them all available for half price and I grabbed one of each kit he had in stock, and two of Nordlandsjekt. I'm taking careful photos of the kits and their parts, as well as the instructions and drawings in case they could be useful under a copyright or license arrangement sometime, I pray. Currently, Piel Craftsmen is accepting internet orders only it seems and the Froys is still listed on the website, http://pielcraftsmen.com/ (look for the link for older and discontinued kits, it's way at the bottom of that list). If you get to speak with Bill Partridge there, he's a wonderful guy (but made the remark last time I spoke with him when I said I look forward to speaking to him again that "If I'm still here").

This page from the instructions is a quick sketch of the ship's design's story. More to come, I promise...

And the obligatory box pics... as you can see it's been around the block a few times. The build pictured on the inside of the box doesn't particularly interest me. I think I much prefer it in the style pictured in the left picture.
