I am working on my heller SR and Wanted to put some more detail on the ship. So i looked at otter ships and saw these:


What are these vertical links called and what is there purpose?

Its the companion rails to stop sailors falling overboard.

If you are talking about the 3 vertical timbers aligned with the side-ladder. these are called fenders and are used to protect the hull when a longboat or ship's boat is in use .

If you are talking about the iron stanchions (double stanchions) and rope, these are also fitted with netting to hold hammocks when engaging in combat. They are used as protection against enemy fire from small arms.
