does anybody know where i can get strip wood and sheets of wood, ship plans and fittings other than cornwall model ships? it seems that they only use ups courier now instead of royal mail. and as we all know (here in canada, anyway ) the shipping fees are huge and then they gouge another 25 or 30 dollars in "handling fees" before they will deliver. most often the shipping fees are more than the original order. i have reached out to cornwall model ships and am awaiting a reply.

I received some very fabulous natural pear planking from the Lumberyard. It was nicely milled to my specifications.

Twice in the past year or so I have had wooden strips sent to me by Cornwall, in card board tubes. They came Royal Mail / Canada Post no problems and cheaper than domestic postage or postage from the US. However, I ordered a kit from them and because we wanted it tracked and insured, they used UPS. And yes, as usual UPS stung me for "brokerage charges". Even when no duty is payable they take their fee from you before they will deliver. Often 30 to $40.
