HMS Victory Mantua 1:78 (first build) by Grant Tyler

Good morning everyone.

Thanks for your support. I Had a blast the last few days- my fitness and the heat took their toll and I dehydrated on day 3. Puncture on day one and ran out of petrol(was a fast day and my fuel management was poor (clearly) - set me back. Had some great guys riding with me and the support and banter was magic. I finished which was my goal so really happy. Time to recover and play with my ship a little:D.

Cheers
Grant

This is how you feel day 3 and water pack emptyROTF. Other 2 guys Anthony and Martin helped me loads- you can see I’m already tired and they fresh as daisies-what age and fitness does- morning on first day “nogal” (already in Afrikaans)

Cheers

Was fun...that was Paulie getting it wrong . Some of the guys rode 990,s (Paulie) and 1090,s - my respect to those guys on heavy bikes. Most on 690,701 or 790,'s other than the serious guys training for up coming local and international events who had proper 450 Ralley's- (super expensive bikes). Anyway I really enjoyed it.

Cheers.

My special greetings to South Africa! I've been twice to this beautiful country and even had a friend there (sadly he passed away some years ago).
Good morning. Yep it is a beautiful place-so much space and diverse topography. Its like all parts of the world put into one. I'm sorry about your friend never easy to loose someone.
Cheers

Back to ship building: had a little time this morning to fit some parts I had previously made.

1. Quarter deck gratings. I had a problem with these as I ran out of gratings. I used left over off cuts (Not long enough to fit across) and cut off the tiny inserts and superglued them between the upper combs parallel to the DP. Last 4 rows on port side. I also cut square for base of belay rack. Could not sand down as much as I would have liked tho they kept breaking off.

2: The belay pin racks. These as with many of the kit parts where out of scale - too thick, however I decided to run with them.
I did make the following changes tho:
- Made twin sheave rope holes (I will need these with my extra rigging lines)
- Cut the top of the pillars to make all four sides angled

Glue and fitted.

Belay pin too small now (go figure kit designers:oops:). I can get longer AL ones which I have ordered- should solve this.

Nicely done Grant! Thumbsup Those servants cover those troublesome grating corners nicely! No one would ever be the wiser!

By the way, your overview photograph looks fantastic!

I wonder if the belaying pin rack is too thick for belaying pins?? She's looking great, Grant! Your display surface is too neat, though. It shames me.

Wow. I step away for a minute and you have trip photos and ship progress! Glad you survived your adventure. I don't know what we would do without pals to help us out when we need a hand...
