I needed some CA accelerator, and I prefer the Titebond Instant Bond spray. Looking on the internet for yhe best prices, I found it at 8.99 for a can. ( They no longer carry it at my local Woodcraft BTW). So I thoght great, added 2 to my cart and proceeded to go to checkout. Then this came up shipping prices! Damn! I guess I'll be using another brand......Any suggestions?

oh boy byer be ware they can really get you on that that is why i use amozon for most of my stuff also wallmart, menards when necessary still always check shipping.GOD BLESS STAY SAFE YOU AND YOURS DON

Even if you are paying for them to pack the item as well as shipping it I firmly believe that a lot of these outfits get their entire profit from "shipping". I was looking for some turned posts and found them at a doll house supply place. Their price was $10 for 5 posts. "Shipping" was $56. They would have been hard to find in a standard envelope. What's a stamp go for now. A lot of them are ripping you off supremely. Rant mode off:)

I found this on the internet for a homemade version of accelerator -
I’ve discovered that you can make a version of cyanoacrylate (CA) glue accelerator at home. Just mix 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda into 1/4 cup of purified water. Brush it onto the “dry” half of the joint. The soda will neutralize the acid in CA glue, which is there to slow the curing time. At this ratio, your homemade accelerator will still give you several seconds of open time to align the parts. But if you want an immediate cure, increase the soda to 1 teaspoon instead. After trying this on many sample joints made of poplar, I’ve noticed no loss of bond strength, plus it’s odor-free and doesn’t stain the wood.

You would be surprised, Phil, but the best CA accelerator is free - it is a drop of water! I just save you a bulk of money...

A lot of the planking is already wet from soaking. I still prefer the titebond accellerator - because it pretty much instantly grabs. I've tried other products but they lack the performance - including water. Maybe it has to do with the density of the Sapele....I use water when immediancy isn't required. But when I am holding part under stress (bending) the titebond spray locks it down right where I want it.

Might be best to redact your email and address before posting to the WWW?

in some cases, i was thinking the same thing, these outrageous shipping charges are inflated for "profit" but here at the lumberyard i do a lot of shipping and i see shipping costs are real. It is not uncommon for a $20.00 order of milled wood to cost $38.00 in shipping.
just 3 sheets of wood 2 x 24 x 3/16 (5mm) shipping is $47.00 to Canada.

if you think the cost of shipping has gone wild 1 piece of Ebony 12 inches long x 3 inches wide x 2 inches thick is $310.00 and that is on sale!
i am sure i can find it cheaper but not by much.

Good evening, because ebony is not another type of wood? Ebony has never been used in naviglio, look for the various essences of parquet

I use Amazon (I have a Amazon Prime account) but I still ook elsewhere for the best pricing. In this case, each can of accelerator was ~16.00 and shipping was FREE.

I have used Insta - Set from Bob Smith Industries with good success. The spray bottle contains 2 ounces and this will last thru many models. It is quick to evaporate and sprays in a mist. The glue drying time is instant. It has been my experience that CA glue requires a longer setting and drying period as the glue ages after opening the container.
I bought this at Hobby Lobby. I don't remember the price but it was only a couple of dollars. Water also works well. Bill W.

A few years ago my local hobby shop guy told me to use my spit. I accomplish this by having a toothpick that I can have ready - get a little moisture on the end, then touch it to the pre-positioned glue. ( don't put the toothpick back in your mouth after ) This works almost all the time.
