I spent a good portion of the day trying to layout my second planking plan I am using 4 plank bands each plank is 6mm so 24mm band I am building the ZHL La Soleil and no matter what I do I am going to run out of room at the bow even tapering the planks at less than 1/2 the width 3mm it still doesn't fit!! I want to have my planking run from stern to bow and not cut up into the previous plank before I reach the end of the bow? Has anyone used drop planks to adjust the avail space at the bow? that looks like the only solution? I don't like the looks of them but If I have to use them think about using one right at the first plank below the lower gunwale? I wanted to place the drop plank much lower on the hull in the dark walnut planking so it would not be so noticeable but by that time it is too late!! any thoughts on the subject would be greatly appreciated

are all the planks in the kit the same width?
i have done this the two planks that run off the single one at the bow are wider than the rest of the planks so at mid ship they close up more space. These two planks tapper at the bow then widen out midship and tapper to the stern.

Yes all the planks are the same width your illustration is exactly what I probably will be doing since I do not have wider planking I will have to taper the 2 planks coming from midships down to join the drop plank coming from the bow

This is the same technique I use. However sometimes the taper comes to a point and I try to avoid that with other techniques.
