Gentle introduction do scratch building

Hello fellow modellers
I just received my HMS Enterprise 1:96 from Modleship Dockyard

And as you can see one part is missing. It looks simple enough to try to make it by myself. Would I be considered a scratch builder if I do it ?

Hi, sorry for this issue. If you need a replacement, we will be sending you this part for free. It will take roughly 2-3 weeks however, you can first make the frames in this time period. Another option is to make one yourself and making you a "scratch builder" LOL. I hope you enjoy the build, if there are any questions please let me know.

sure it will! We will call you a parts scratch builder ROTF ROTF Did you declare the part missing? It might be somewhere that falls between the laser-cut billets.
 
Have you fully unwrapped the parts bundle it should be in. I have had parts fall from sheet, but found them loose in wrapping when I fully unwrapped the kit.
 
Yes I fully inspected the packaging. Unfortunately, it looks like it fell off during wrapping in the factory and is nowhere to find in the box or wrapping
 
I agree with you Kurt. Zoltan already offered, he will send the part free of charge. So I have to try to fabricate it:
1. Step one trace it on paper and glue the patern

2.step two cut it out

As you can see the process was successful. Some other parts fall off from the board but they are save. If you look closer I have enough free board to try one more time if this one is screw up. .
The part looks like it is from bow puzzle and surely will be to big as I traced the hole not actual part . We will see

The gap would be smaller when glued and clamped. I think it looks good from here, but you are the true judge. :)

When you are making lots of parts, it's easy to loose count and make an extra one. I always end up making an extra part after my rotary tool flings the first one across the room and into the unknown. Then, weeks after that step in the model construction is completed, I find it on the floor in some unsuspected corner somewhere. I've lost small blocks, a couple euphroes, a cleat, and some cannon trucks to the carpet monster. I have spent countless hours one my hands and knees looking for 1.5mm single sheave boxwood blocks used for gun tackles, and have lost at least a dozen of the damned things. But, it keeps Dry Dock Ship Model parts in business. Who's laughing now ? ;)

In my defense, the plans I purchased showed 2 left wings. I guess the draftsperson just did a copy and paste rather than mirror it. LOL
I built them both right on the plan never thinking there would be an issue like that. The wings were rotated 90 degrees to each other, so it wasn't something you would notice right off.
