OK thanks Rob, but not building as many these days - losing interest to a great extent as far as the actual building is concerned. Not recovered mentally from the severe damage to the model of the barque Gulf Stream a few weeks ago, and have done very little since then. Concentrating on plan drawing more these days, but I don't expect there will be much interest in them.

No it's an actual model being worked.....I am building 4 scratch builds currently, so I go between them when I get the urge. currently I am focusing on my Great Republics mast shrouds and ratlines. Having so many models in the yard at the same time..means I have lots to do and inspiration leads me to one or the other at any given time.

How can I formulate it????
It would be great if you share your project(s) in building log(s) - off course not necessary to go too much into details, but sometimes to get some update would be great - looking forward

I was about to ask you about your plan book you are doing.....I'm very interested.

I am not sure there would be much demand, I have produced quite a lot of downloads with plans in them, but even at a mere £1.49 each, I am not exactly being overwhelmed with sales. Sadly, if they aren't bristling with guns and decorations, they are not very popular.

Rob - I see you are on Facebook. I have sent you (or I think I have) an invitation to join my Facebook group "Merchant Ships in Miniature." At present, there are 727 members, and the group is quite active. But you will see that I appear to be the only one that ever builds sailing ships - proof enough that there is very little interest. This is a recent plan I drew up, but when I took it to the local ship model club and passed it round, eyes glazed over, and the talk passed on to other things without comment! :confused:

But here we are are talking about these ships - of all types of ships
Windjammers, clippers barques - all very interesting vessels and often with special histories (and stories behind)

Up to date more than 300 people viewed this topic, several posted already comments and several more made "likes" -> there is interest in these ships, but not everybody is building models of them
 
The largest sphere of interest is by collectors. Viewing figures and the occasional "like" don't mean a great deal if no-one says anything, but speaking for myself, I don't get any satisfaction at all from "playing to an empty theatre" which is why I have discontinued build logs, not just here - but everywhere. In fact at the moment, I am considering giving it up altogether, and just taking up plan drawing for my own amusement. The main reason is that after the Gulf Stream model was wrecked, I am not prepared to send them out by courier any more, so my outlets are now reduced to personal collection, and in the past, I have made too many to keep. My best customers were mainly in the USA, Europe and the Far East. I am already getting pressure from collectors, but when a hobby becomes a chore, it is time to give up! It makes a pleasant change that there is now some discussion taking place, but even so, it is very limited, and will soon die out! Afraid that kits have taken over, and nothing will ever reverse that. I expect the 3D printers will eventually supercede the kit - progress, I suppose.
