I have been very busy with work and grandkids and my hobby time has been reduced drastically.
I needed a break from the NL ship build as it is a project that will take many years to complete.
So I decided to work on another airplane for several reasons.
I don’t have step by step photos, so I will start with where I am at…to be continued

Hope all is well with you, my friend!

Hope all is well with you, my friend!
Thanks Doc,
I recently lost my mom to lung cancer, stage 4. Once diagnosed she lived another 7 weeks! :(
I spent as much time as possible with her until she passed.
It was the hardest thing I have ever done! She was there to see me take my first breath and I was there when she took her last. I owed her that much, to be by her bedside and to comfort her. She died on August 7th and I still have good days and bad days, but hanging in there!

I officiated the funeral for both my dad and my sister-in-law in recent years. Keep your loved ones close...

I'll let you get back to your plane. I was just happy to see you posting!
Always good to hear from you friend!
I have a lot of build logs to catch up on, and I’m sure I will be amazed at your work and progress! ;)

I built all of the frames for the wings, fuselage, etc.
Then I did a dry fit to make sure everything is going to go together correctly. Then I sat some plastic pieces I painted in place to get an idea of how those were going to look…

I built this kit back in 1976 when a senior in High School, what fond memories ( ok, I am lying of fond memories, what a PIA project working on mom dinner table and moving to storage daily), it was a fun build and learning lots of structural info and terms.

That plane you referenced, Marge, belonged to Richard "Dick" I Bong, the top US Ace in WWII, and to date, with 40 documented kills. Marge was his girlfriend who he married after he was done with combat flying. Sadly he died as test pilot for new jet fighter same day the first atomic bomb was dropped.

Marge is one of most famous P-38 Lightnings ever.

Hi Dean,

Great new project and a lovely remembrance to call her after your mom.
Will you be flying this model or is it a static model.

I do have a P38 from flightline/Freewing with retract etc. which is a large 63" foam plane for rc flying, great model to fly with.

Thank you Maarten!
That’s awesome! Love your RC P-38!
I am building a static model of this one, even though it’s 40” wingspan (1:16 scale).
I used to fly RC, but finding a good airfield usually requires joining a local RC club.
Who knows, I may get back into it.
