Hi there guys, I'm new to the hobby, been building mostly tanks so far, but I am generally good with wood on a large scale, so I thought to give a shot to model ship building. Being a povo, obviously nothing else could be my first build than the famous HALCON from China...I got my kit for 4£ + 2£ delivery, so I think it was a pretty good deal. I also got the 'extras' set, with the canons and anchors. Already progressed quite a bit into it, and won't lie, I learned all so far from this forum from planking to the positioning of the masts all.
Soon I will reach to the rigging, which is something I've done before for a plastic Victory, but on a very 'rough' level of detail...something I aim to improve on this model. I already got some blocks and dead-eyes, and soon will try working with them.
Looking forward for advise and review on my progress, as this model is just a warmup for a larger scratch built that I plan for a while, so I better get my abilities right on this one.
Hope you guys will like my take on this cheap kit

Looks fine and these "cheap" Chinese kits are a real fun to build.
You go the same way I do... See my avatar-picture at the left.

During the holydays I managed to finish my first project. It's an other take on this super popular kit...the sails are a bit weird...made it with overlocker. Not sure how you guys would have done it...but what is done is done. Looking forward for the next project. It may going to be a Danubian warship. Bu I also acquired a kit from Disar, the St Luis, which I plan to build eventually as a proper Spanish galleon, but that is a longer project.

You ship is remarkable for a first time! Curious what overlocker is. I had not heard of it before.

Rob
Thanks, Rob
An overlocker is a fancy sewing machine with 2 needles and 2 knives, designed to deal with edges. It's perfect for cloths, but not so much for sails, the stich is way too thick...also didn't helped that the material that came with the kit was very cheap and pretty much disintegraing on touch...
