I live in the beautiful state of Washington, retired. After years of building plastic models, I tried my first plank on bulkhead, Occre’s Revenge of 1577. I am now hooked and thoroughly enjoying the new part of the hobby. I am loving it. The challenges of figuring out what I need to do to make it look right, then successfully completing each task. Next, Corel’s Mirage.

Welcome. It sounds like the bug has bitten you; now there is no going back. I hope you start a build log and keep us posted.

Thanks everyone, I have already made a couple of posts on the Le Mirage, but never introduced myself. So glad to be able to be a part of such a wonderful community.

Welcome. Love your signature photo!

We've spent a lot of time near Whidbey Island and out on the Olympic Peninsula (chasing elk/deer). Beautiful place to call home.

I am new to the PNW. Does anyone know of a good hobby shop in the area that has supplies, kits etc. which would be useful for our hobby?

I was a Quartermaster 3rd class and served aboard the USS Lexington in 1971. I was also stationed in Guantanamo in 70 and NAS Jacksonville in 69. I like living here, but I’ve also have lived just north of Boston, 50 miles west of Chicago, southern California for 15 years and now here. I’m from Nebraska.

When I lived in tje Boston area, I belonged to a model boat building club that held it’s meetings at a building at the Charleston Navy Yard and the windows looked out to the USS Constitution. Great club, lots of members, great atmosphere.

That’s what I thought. That has been what I have found so far.

Times have changed. When I was a teenager living in Brooklyn Ny, we had several local hobby shops.

I worked in one of them after school. We had all sorts of great hobby stuff ranging from wooden model railroad kits like Ambroid, Walthers, FloQuil paints, full lines of strip wood, etc. I bought my first ship model kit there a Billings boat kit which I was actually able to inspect before I bought it and asked intelligent questions to the sales person.

I got a lot of my hobby stuff in exchange for my working there as a Lionel train repair man.
