Hi!
I'm building a model of a Grimsby Ross 'Cat Class' side trawler and need to know how long their mid water or deep water trawel nets were.

Of course they were stowed away on the starboard side of the deck therefore they couldn't be much longer than the trawler it's self, or?

Alas, finding fabric soft enough with the right size of mesh for 1:142 scale Cod will also be challenging.

Best Regards, UrkVisser

Go to the Model Ship World Forum. There’s a guy who models fishing boats. Look on Scratch Built Models 1900 and later for threads posted by Fried Clams. He has posted fishing net drawings for one or more of his projects. You might have to use the forum’s search function.

Hi …. (UrkVisser)
For the nets of my Balder I used a ‘Midget net’. To protect your head from those nasty little basterd in Scotland of Norway.
For 1:50 scaled herring, but cod is much bigger. Perhaps ok for 1:142.
PS: Perhaps starting a build-log of the build of your trawler?

Hi! I was just reading your posts about your Balder when you answered my post; what a coincidence! Haha!

Somebody in a Dutch model train forum suggested I use recycled panty hose but, alas my wife doesn't wear those anymore. It's an idea but I still need to know long is the net.

Do you know long the nets were in Urk or down your way?

Yes, I'll e eventually do a log about my build but I'm presently having problems with my Revell enamel paint on it's hull.

I also just ordered a Mantua Hoogars ARM 82 in 1:25 scale plus I'm rigging my 1:64 scale Bluenose (1921).

The advantage of a build-log is that you can show the current state of your build and ask advice for a specific problem. For sure you will get answers in a short time.
And ‘Advanced Search’ with ‘enamel paint’ showed some other questions and helping info about that.

Yes, that's a good idea! I had painted my Bluenose with some Revell SM 302 satin finish black enamel (which was a year on the shelf) and the results were wonderfull. But the next day I painted my trawler (which is a Revell plastic kit) with the same black paint and it was only defective and matt. A second coat also didn't help so I ordered new paint. Alas the new paint reactivated the old paint and now its a mess.
