We are saddened to share the news that one of our longest-standing members, Don Farr (87), who joined Ships of Scale on January 9, 2013, passed away on Wednesday morning.
Later in life, Don found great joy and connection through model shipbuilding. After the passing of his wife, this passion became a source of comfort and purpose, helping him stay engaged and hopeful. His family is deeply grateful for the role that shipbuilding and the friendships he found here at SOS played in enriching his life and giving him strength.
The SOS community meant a great deal to Don and to his family, who appreciated the companionship and support he found among fellow modelers.

Rest in peace, Don Farr. You will be missed.

Don was one of those rare and dedicated members who never gave up. No matter the challenges he faced, he remained committed to his craft. Even at his age, he continued building models with passion and always pursued the research to do things right.
He wasn’t afraid to ask questions when he wasn’t sure of the next step, always humble, always eager to learn. As mobility became more difficult and a wheelchair became part of his daily life, Don didn’t let that stop him. Instead, he adapted his building routines to keep doing what he loved most: ship modeling.

His perseverance and love for the hobby were an inspiration to us all. You will be missed by us!

Don and i go back some 15 years maybe more

His perseverance and love for the hobby were an inspiration to us all.
no doubt about it Jim

years ago i got an email from Don it was at a time many of us were banned from MSW he said he knew of a forum small, just a few hundred members, very few actually knew about it, not very active but he felt something good about it. He was right about that. He fought like a warrior to protect Ships of Scale it was more than just a hobby to him.

he was combative as some of us know but his heart and vision was right on point.

sail away my friend

Ahh... sad news indeed. The Don I knew was passionate about modeling and about SOS. He was eager to see new research and the atypical build. Best of all, we always knew how Don felt about something! He believed in a higher power - may he rest in his Savior's embrace.

Very sad to hear of Don's passing. He will be missed, and I have had the pleasure of meeting with him several times where he lived in Kansas. We talked about many things and how he had to downsize his collection and tools when he moved into a long term care facility.

He was always kind in his words and praise for fellow modelers in the forum.

For you Don, MAY YOU REST IN PEACE ON THE SAILS OF ANGELS.

so sorry, the age r our friends disturbers me

I haven't been a member here for very long, but I've been here long enough to have the privilege of reading many of Don's posts. While seeming to always be shouting, I knew it was because he had difficult seeing the screen and keyboard - yet he persevered. His posts always brought a warm smile to my heart.

So Don, here's to you Beer as you begin your new adventure. GOD BLESS AND STAY STRONG!
