I'm laying deck planking and in order to keep it flat on the deck as I glue it I am using weights to hold it down, and pushpins to keep it snug against the other planks. I needed something with high weight and low footprint to be able to focus as much of the weight as possible on the planks that are getting glued, and well, this is the best I could come up with.

They're a bit expensive as far as weights go and marginally fragile, so I'd kinda prefer to use something else, but I am not sure what. I found some 500g and 1kg calibration weights online, but they are a tad too pricey to get more than one or two of them. So I am hoping you guys found something good I can replicate.

I think glass weights are good because they are usually smooth enough to do no damage and there’s little risk of staining from contact with excess glue or moisture.

Jam jars (filled with heavy things) and paperweights are possibly more stable than bottles of booze but they lack those pleasant side effects. ;)

Whatever I can find in the house that is heavy enough, but not too heavy For whatever I am trying to accomplish.

If you need any pointers for adjusting the weight of yours, let me know…

Weights while building, anything available... liquor bottles, what are ya thinking????? What if it fell off ???????
But if it was Scotch, no worries LOL

I am a 95 year old retired dentist and use old dental instruments for building. My best weight is my old Greys Anatomy text,it is large and heavy. Any old heavy book will do.

The trouble with these is they keep getting lighter! HIC!

Years ago, I built many Audio amplifiers and had a good collection of transformers When cleaning house, I was going to throw them out. Then I said, 'What other use are these cores?' I know how about weights for my new hobby, shipbuilding.
I beveled one corner so glue would not stick to the weights.
