Jotika HMS Victory

Allen is of course quite right, and if you plan to patina the coppering then a new color on the pintles and gudgeons may well be worth the effort. But as they are from an aesthetic perspective they seem to tie together the bright coppered hull and the black hull above the water line very nicely, at least to my eye.

Thanks Wil, it was my way of thinking, but no 'forceful' patina, I'll let nature take its course. Having put some copper tape around the edge of a plant tray to deter slimy-creepy critters, I noticed after 3 days & s few light showers (whatever is in the rain nowadays, beggars belief),it had a mottled patina. If one could isolate the rest of the ship from the weather, this could be a way for 'natural' patina. ;)

I have just looked in Peter Goodwin's book at the rudder of Vic, it shows up black & made of bronze. I have a pot of Tamiya bronze paint, so I tried some - it's virtually metallic black, therefore I'll leave mine as black, but I am going to make new brass pintles tomorrow.

Did some looking at photos of contemporary models in the age of coppered bottoms and the only one I can find so far is Bellona (74) 1760. I guess no one wanted the aggravation of coppering the hulls back in the day.

I sure will. I stuck some used ones onto double-sided tape attached to a piece of styrene, yesterday, since there's been some showers, so time will tell - hopefully.
Another idea would be a combination of verdigris paint & weathering dry brushed artistically, then sealed with clear coat?
