Hi, call me KingDaddyo. First time to join a forum, long time ship builder. Live in New Castle, Indiana. Have build many wooden ship kits over the years. Bought the Vasa kit back in 1997 and stored it. Have just got it out and cleared two work benches to start the built. A thread on this site deals with this ship so I’m going to follow it closely as the “instructions” on this kit are somewhere between dismal and non existent. Experience will help a lot but the thread will really help! Being 70 and retired now gives me ample time to start and enjoy this build. I will take some pictures along the way and hope for all the input I can get for help!!

Welcome aboard. Looking forward to watching your build of the Vasa.

Hi Daddyo,

There are a few of us Vasa builders here and with completion under our belts, like Daniel. We have also done a LOT of research of the ship and there is a lot available.

If we can help, reach out. My build was a Billings kit, but the details, whether Mantua, or something else remains the same.

Good luck. That’s a BIG model.

Best Regards,

PeterG

I was wondering. I was worried I was posting too many photos. Is there a guideline for this or do you just post what you like? Also, I noticed another Vasa builder posted photos of the parts for the kit before building. Is that something to help people ?

Welcome to SoS!

Few rules here, other than be nice.

Unboxing photos are useful for folks like me who might be interested in a a particular kit or trying to decide what to add to the stash next. I've not seen any indications yet of a limit on photos. the more the merrier, i say!

Thank you very much for your kind guidance. I live the rule do unto others as you would have them do unto you. I treat everyone I meet as my best friend. It’s always worked well for me! Building these ships has always been very therapeutic for me. I assume it’s the same for everyone on this site. I worked a high pressure job for 34 years. This is my retirement present to me!! Lolol
