Greetings from the UK!

Well, after finishing the Chris Craft runabout, I started twitching…
So, I had to have a go at the Dumas Victory Tug (kit #1225.)
What a lovely kit.

The last week has entailed keel, ribs and now starting the planking.

Long way to go but loving every minute.

Best wishes everyone.

Namery.

Hi Graham, am taking pictures as I go along but how to edit and put together remains a dark art for me but I’ll try.
Thanks!

Looking good. Maybe start a build log and keep us posted? Cheers.
Here’s Port side planking…. (Phase 3 in planking instructions) and it was a pig! In the end I just cracked on an then sanded, filled and sanded again.
I intend to keep the bulwarks original wood so these hull planks will be painted.
Such a shame to paint over all that work!!!

Trust me, if I can do it anyone can! I use my tablet to take pictures and just pull them in from my photo gallery. I used to use a separate camera, but that just adds another level of complication I can no longer be bothered with involving a laptop and leads. Probably why some of my pictures are a bit ropey?! Good luck!

That tug is going to be real nice when you get it done. Do you plan on putting rc gear in it?
Good afternoon Woodpecker!
The intention is to put the RC into it.
I’m playing it by ear, but I’d like to get her on the water.
Thanks for your comment.

During World War II there were a number of small 35-40 foot tugs built here in the Duluth, Mn / Superior Harbor for the US Army. Several were still around in the 1990’s used as yachts and one sits on dry land in front of our local maritime museum. I wonder if your model kit builds one of them?

Roger

Looked it up. It’s purpose built yacht. No relation to the Army tugs that I posted.

Was as I thought Roger.
As far as I know (which isn’t a lot!) the original was around in the late 1940’s but were then adapted as luxury cruisers sleeping up to 5.
The original undoubtedly has a long history. All the pictures I’ve seen of contemporary ones have the same lines as this model.

Hi “Namery,”
I just stumbled upon your model build, and it looks great. I also have the Dumas Victory tug in my to-build collection. It’s such an elegant model, and I’ve found several build logs online.
I’ll certainly be following your progress closely, as your approach and ideas will be very useful.

Best wishes everyone.

Namery.

Thank you Bluebeard!

Totally recommend this one. Challenging and rewarding.
Make sure you follow the planking instructions to the letter! (I just messed up) especially the hull planking.
Will keep you posted!
Best Wishes
Namery.

Yes, please include the mistakes you come across in your build. This will help the rest of us know what to look out for.”
Schoolboy error Bluebeard!
I did the one side hull planking and had a day off.
Then I went back the other side and forgot to taper the first plank AS STIPULATED IN THE INSTRUCTIONS!
Nightmare! Much shaping and filling but I think I got away with it…

Wow, beautiful work. Well done. Bulkheads look a little thin though, but obviously thats what they supply, don’t know if they distort though as they are thin

Hi DennisP,
I get what you’re saying but I think once the planking is done completely the whole thing supports itself .
I’ll soon find out!
