I have been building ships for about 20 years. My home is full of the ones I have kept; I gave the others away. I have been asked to build the Spanish frigate, Bucantaurs, 86 guns.
I am a kit-builder, so I need a kit for this. If the hull is right, I can modify the rest. However, I have not been able to find a suitable kit. The closest is the Nurstra Senora Del Pilar, but it is 1:46. A bit large.
Any suggestions?

If you are asking about the 86 gun ship launched in1803 it was a French ship, not Spanish. It was part of the Franco-Spanish fleet at Trafalgar and was built in France at Toulon Dockyard. If that is the ship, maybe contact the Musée National de la Marine in Paris to see what they might have. It was preceded by the Tonnant class of ships, which had a similar gun configuration. The Suffren class served as the successor to the Bucentaure class so these might be useful if you cannot find anything specific to Bucentaure. Interestingly the name is that of a mythical creature with the body of a bull and the head of a man. Might make a great figurehead. There are contemporary profile, body plan, and deck plans of Tonnant available from the RMG Collections site that might be worthwhile.
