I have 10 kits in my stash. As I am about to retire my shop will be open many more hours than in the past. I have kits from 18" to 5' long. I don't know where I'm going to put them all. Let alone get cases made for them all. What do all you guys do?
 
I too am about to face this dilemma….looking forward to some inventive suggestions….I do have a pool , perhaps I could create a harbour..lol
 
I have given away all but 3 of my builds. Some I have let see my stash of kits and let them pick the one I build next. Some have been given to small businesses that have a spot. If the know who it’s going to, I can personalize it with something on it that relates to that person or business. I think for me it adds a lot to the build when I know it has a home as soon as it’s finished. To me it’s about the build not the finished model. I rather think of stuff I can do instead of thinking of things I’ve done:-) I do have to choose smaller kits. The big ones are probably pretty hard to find a home. I have the Kon- Tiki raft kit that I’ve had feelers out for a small Polynesian restaurant that might like to have it. I look at the cost of the kit and divide it my how many weeks or months it takes me to build it and give it away and that’s a relatively small amount for my enjoyment:-)
 
I have similar problems.

My loft contains over a hundred plastic ship and aircraft kits, many of which are scarce and sought after.

I have 2 'vintage' motorcycles in a garage full of parts and spares, all scarce and sought after.

Since I lost a leg, none of this stuff is accessible to me.

One of my bikes is very rare, which I had built for me new in 1984.
Over the years I've had nothing but derisory offers, yet when similar machines are offered for sale, they are expensive.
So I'm putting the word out that I intend cutting it up into small none salvageable bits!

I can sympathize with you. I have no more room left for my boats. I installed some shelves on the wall in my shop and have the boats there but I am running out of space. I may have to install shelves in other rooms too. I have 5 boats in my dry dock. I don't plan on making anymore after these as each of these beauties takes me years to finish.

been there done that. Hint: They don't float.
My solution is to install shelves on the walls. I have 5 or 6 boats left to go through. I will have to put them in another room or basement. I don't have them in glass cases because they are too expensive and I don't have the hardware to make them myself
Truth be told, I am more interested in actually building them than staring at the completed project. I may donate a few. My wife already has one of my ships in her classroom for her kids to see.

It is one solution to mount wall shelving to hold the models,then
comes the time when one down sizes, where then do these models
go ?
The children and Grand children really do not have space for them. Most of
us want a home for them we're they will be cared for and
appreciated , hopefully such an abode will surface.
Good luck to all in the future wishing to find a home for many
of their models.
I find myself presently , in the same boat ! pun .

Well I hate to say it but if you can't donate them, then they go in the great white dry dock.
 
It would seem many of us are dealing with this or soon to be.
I have wondered about donating them to a fund raising auction for some type of charity.
Think of some high priced individual showing off YOUR work in their office and only paid $100 for it.

But it would be for a good cause.
 
The Hudson River Maritime Museum in Kingston NY has a substantial number of model ships and boats on display. I intend to send my paddle wheel ship to them upon my demise or even before. I suspect that they will be pleaased to have additional well made models, such as yours, to display. The museum is a small gem and issues periodic (weekly?) historical reports on the web, that are worthwhile to subsribe to (no cost but membership is suggested).
