Pugwash's peg-leg

Peter, hi.
Thank you for your questions.

The sessions have been going well with 'Mel'.
We've been focusing on 'walking' between parallel bars, but not using them for support (just a safety refuge).
I'm encouraged by this, which gives me confidence that in time I may be able to 'walk' for short distances unaided; though that's a way off.
The deal was for 6 of these sessions; having completed 4 so far i have no idea how 'Mel' will assess my progress, but once more I've done all that was asked of me.

My Bonsai hobby has developed considerably over 40 years.
I don't pursue the conventional aesthetic; rather I hope to develop trees which look more natural.
My good friend, Chris managed to successfully preserve them during last summer, the hottest for many years. Watering is the essential thing and he did it well.
Now I look forward to giving them a long overdue prune.

Mike, hi.

My bonsai hobby began as something relaxing to do.
As with hobbies, one tends to become over enthusiastic; I found myself with a mini forest of over 200!
Time and hard winter frosts (they are permanently outside) have reduced this to 20!
One hard lesson:- due to frost, all my expensive ceramic pots cracked, I recommend mica containers, they are unobtrusive and indestructable.
My go to species are Blackthorn and Hawthorn, which survive all sorts of abuse.

Deep Joy!

Todays physio session was ground breaking (for me).
I've become officially A TODDLER!

For the whole time I was 'walking' without aids.
What a blast that was for 'Mel' and I.
An achievement to savour.

One last session next week, then the rest is up to me, 'walking' back to happiness.

A ship is not always needed ........
(PS: It's not mine, got it from the internet ....... ;))

Not enough years left in these old bones to shape a bonsai that beautiful. It was a fun hobby manyyears ago when there was time. There is a need of at least 5 to 10 years of constant attention just to start to shape and train the branches and trimming the sprouts to get something as beautiful as in the photo and it never ends. Some species are hundreds of years old, passed down from generation to generation. Still, a fun and relaxing hobby, something to play with while the glue dries on the ship model. :) Bayan fig, junipers, Japanese white pines, and others can last many centuries with some known to be over 1000 years old. But I digress............

Just been in the garden all afternoon, watered tree's and spent 2hrs chatting with Wayne, Lynn's husband, next door.

Feel all the better for that.

Allan, you're right about the tree's and the attention they demand... a friend describes them as 'slow pets'!

My long term worries are who's going to inherit all my stuff when the time comes?
