Where to find plans for US Cargo Ships

I would really like to build a model of African Dawn or African Meteor, as I sailed as cadet on those ships in 1976.

Great times! I sailed on the African Comet as an engine cadet in '66. Had a long talk about her and our trip several weeks ago with my roommate and longtime friend from school with whom I sailed on Comet. Oh the sea stories...... Makes me smile even today.

I have a couple of feelers out as I recall seeing one on an old shipmates fb page.
Quite a number of years ago a retired chief engineer Hugh Curren had wanted to commission a model build of African Comet of which he sailed to South Africa many times.
I had found a large outboard profile at the American Merchant Marine museum @Kings Point.
I was there doing ship model restorations.
Alas I never recorded where that plan “lived” at the museum nor made a copy.
One of those things that I thought I would get back to it and that never happened.
And the museum has never been fully staffed to accommodate research requests.
I’ll keep you posted on what I can find.

Allen did you sail with Hugh Curren chief engineer.
He loved sailing on the Comet.
Though he might have been with MSC about that time period.
She’s a beautiful ship
