HMS Enterprise 1774 POF 1:48.

Good afternoon.

I thought I would start a log for my Enterprise build. I bought the CAF models 1:48 kit made primarily from Cherry wood.

I am impressed with the quality of the kit with everything packed and presented very professionally. Let the photos do the talking :

The instructions are just a series of drawings with a 1:1 scale diagram supplied with each section/box. These appear to be really good-the proof will be in the pudding so to speak.
Each box is a section with the instruction manual divided into 6 sections:

My initial disappointment is the level of accuracy with this kit. Just some background reading and my preview of the kit has revealed a fair amount of discrepancies. Being my first POF I am inclined to “stick with the kit” however we never know….;).

Cheers Grant
Wonderfull, I think the price of a kit is not really a prove of satisfaction

Good morning gentlemen. Plenty of fun with some sketchy outcomes. I thinned down the darker/redder cherry stain and did my inside thin stuff and gunports.

I like the overall effect however my hand drilled treenails into my veneer cover up did not produce the neat results I wanted. Luckily you don’t see most of these……whew.

I oiled the parts of the gunports I did not want the darker colour first and then applied the stain. The stain doesn’t stick to the oil so I could wipe it off with an earbud. The redder ports look cool. Super cool treenails on outside- dremel and proper wood make for better nails :D .

……and some more cannon:

I cannot wait to rig these….so excited ROTF.
Cheers from a chilly Melkbosstrand.

Yes …… The time has finally come …..
Send them to me and I will ignore them for you. Reduces the guilt on your end.
I know just how much you have looked forward to this moment ... so happy for you! You must enjoy every moment! ROTF
... be careful what you wish for.... ;) ROTF ;) ROTF
Good morning. In SA we have a saying when our friends give some banter. “ You guys are such chops” ROTF (H will know what I am saying). It can also be used in the negative sense meaning fool/idiot, so don’t Google and think I am being meanROTF.

So….you guys are such chops….…ROTF. I did open myself up here tho.
I’m waiting for some pear blocks and rope from Zoly so my “favourite “ job is on hold for the moment- yah.
Cheers Grant

Grant, your ship has that beautiful warm glow to it. Looking forward to your canon rigging.
Good morning Daniel. Thank you kindly. I’m not a fan of cherry wood tho. It sands up beautifully and then darkens to look dirty. I have tried oil and poly and both give a “dirty” look. This may fit the contemporary look I want but it is a little frustrating.
Very well done Grant. I hope that CAF will someday change from cherry to another woodtype. It‘s really personnel, but I do not like cherry for shipmodels.
Thank you very much. I totally agree with you. It is really nice to work with (cuts and shapes easy) however I cannot get it to finish nicely. Drives me nuts.
Hey Grant,

That looks absolutely stunning. What progress… Simply brilliant…

I’ll be keeping an eye on your build log…

Best regards,

Günther
Good morning Gunther. Thank you kindly. It is still in the messy stage so hopefully I can get the finishes looking good. I’m not a fan of cherry wood but will give it a shot to look good.
Hi Grant,
Your ship is looking great!

Bill
Thank you very much Bill. It is much appreciated.
marvelous work!!!
Good morning Shota. Thank you my friend. I alway appreciate your encouragement and comments.
Cheers Grant
