Black Swan - Occre by GIG1810

Hey Bahramflame,

Great that you're asking a question. Feel free to ask anything here in my construction report. As you've seen, I'm converting the Black Swan into the Athena. So, feel free to take a look around here.

Regarding your question: you mean the deck planking and planks B2, right? Take a look at your legend. It says "sycamore wood" for B2 and the dimensions 0.6 × 5 × 50. These are the deck planks amidships.

Wood types (lime, sycamore) are also used for C1–C10, with different dimensions. So be careful! You will need to use these when planking the stern, bow or bowsprit.

Please refer to the construction manual provided. Thumbsup
Hi Günther,

Thank you very much for replying to my comment. I have been slowly going through the comments in this thread and I am a great fan of the custom dinghy for your build.

I am just really worried about messing up. I did measure the ones that they provide and the lengths for the sycamore are either 40cm or 60cm. I did notice that some of them are much thinner which makes me think that those are the ones for the hull. I don't want to delay my work any longer on this so I think I will make the most educated decision I can make and live with the results.

Hello B.

The strips are always longer. You shorten them yourself. The width and height are important. Of course, you can build your model however you like. But I hope you don't get annoyed. Take a look on the internet. There are instructional videos for Black Pearl by OcCre. That will definitely help you. Here is the link:

Otherwise, stick to your building instructions, especially if this is your first ship. Anything else could backfire and demotivate you.

Best regards, Thumbsup

Hey Bahramflame,

Was I able to help you? How is your construction progressing? Do you have any pictures yet, or haven't you started yet?

When you say thinner are you speaking of the breadth or the thickness? I realize this is a 17th century fictional ship but I am guessing, based on actual ships. if this is for the ship's boats, the planking would likely be less than an inch thick. (0.33mm at 1:75) and about 6" to 8" broad (2mm to 2.7mm) Not easy to work with. Planking that is a little thicker can work as it can be sanded down.

This thread is very interesting and actually what convinced me to go for the Occre Pirate ship, I hope to be able to customize it as you did here although I want to keep it a pirate ship :) .

Hey Naima,

I’m glad I was able to inspire you a little. Well, I haven’t been on the forum for quite a while as I’ve been away on business and travelling a lot. Now I’m back and will be getting more involved again. I hope you’ve got started?

Best regards,

Günther

Hi , not Yet I just started a thread for some questions, I have ordered tools to work from here and there because I am a total noob and I had none yet.
I am already wondering how to make a second deck or fix the proportions of the ship .

Hey Naima, unfortunately, with a ready-made kit, this always involves quite a bit of work. You’ll also need to make sure the modifications fit properly… But I’m keeping my fingers crossed for you, and if you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask – I’d be more than happy to help… Best wishes, Günter

Hello everyone,

After a long absence, I’m back on the forum and looking forward to your great comments and your building projects. I was lucky enough to be travelling and visited Singapore, Lapland and England. Whilst there, I visited HMS Victory. Unfortunately, I found that the ship was completely covered in scaffolding, so I couldn’t see any of its exterior. Only small details were visible. It is undergoing a complete restoration and, everyone hopes, will be fully restored by 2034. That means even with all its masts, sails and rigging. So I’ve decided to travel to England again to see it. Nevertheless, you can still visit it. I took countless photos of the interior. It was simply indescribable. I also visited the Maritime Museum in Greenwich. It was simply beautiful …

I’d be happy to post a few pictures on my forum if that’s what you’d like…..

Best regards

Günther
