Hi all,

I joined March 15 as new member. To start light I will build the Revell 1:50 Vikingship. Its a nice clean kit with not that many parts. Reason that I build it is to test some techniques in painting plastic as wood.
No clean workbenches with me ;) I'm a real ADHD guy (Is this term used in English?): Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. So a little chaos is always part of the deal with me.

Hull; 2 halves with a good fit. Little flash, little work:

After 5 minutes preperation they where glued together:

While the glue dries I test-fitted the deck:

It fits very well so I don't expect problems there. Meanwhile the both "heads" prepared:

Stay tuned, more to come!

Thanks Kurt Thumbsup

After dinner upstairs to do the head ornaments. Glued them together, let them dry, smoothened the seam and glued them on the ship:

Its only possible to glue them both in the right place, they are notched so they always go on the good way.

Glued the mast halves together:

And let the assembly dry. Now I need a cup of coffee! Later

Today I did a paint test with Revell Aqua 382:

Looks good to me, will tone down after aging and weathering.

Then I did the deck twice, photo is 5 minutes after the second layer:

Needs one more layer. And test fitted in the ship:

Tip of the mast went wrong with drying of the glue yesterday:

Fixed that, photo tomorrow. Stay tuned!

This morning I did the deck, this was after the second layer:

The top of the mast is reasonable good now:

Deck has 3 layers now:

Did the shields on both sides, 1 layer:

Outside and inside 1 layer:

And I just did inside the second time:

I let it rest now. Tomorrow I will do the outside and see if 2 layers are enough or that it needs also 3 layers.

Testfit with all big parts in 3 layers of brown paint:

Except the heads, they need ne or two more layers of paint.

Vallejo wash:

And after a half hour it dried:

Under light it is always difficult to make a good photo But I think you get the drift :) Tomorrow I try some drybrushing.

Deck dried well:

This afternoon I drybrushed it. First with the wood colour (very little) and after that with a light grey. I think it looks ok:

The wash I use:

First I did the inside:

And after that the outside. Here with the deck and the mast loose fitted :

It starts to look like a ..... Vikingship! :p

I'm impressed so far, Ronald.
You are using techniques perhaps envisaged when this kit was introduced, before everyone got access to an airbrush and getting excellent, convincing results.
Well done.

I drybrushed the outside of the ship the same way as the inside:

And after that dried I prepared the parts for..... the marriage!:

I did use glue out of the tube, it is a little thicker and dries slower. Married!!:

Weathered and assembled the rudder:

Glued and painted the bracket for the rudder and also placed the 3 stands on the deck. After that I glued the mast, also with the thicker tube glue:

Lining it all up was not that difficult.
And the lower sideview:

Painted the stands with a first layer:

More to come!

You’re hard to keep up with! Everything looks very slick. Will it be ready tomorrow? I can also see you’re working on a lot of projects and still have plenty on the back burner, so I guess you’ve got months of work ahead of you!

Will it be ready tomorrow?
Almost ;) I'm on sickleave at this moment, not working. And a lot of time to model. Severe backproblem and possible herniated disk or similair, biggest problem now is my right foot who does not work properly and makes walking difficult. Next week a MRI and a consult. I'm 61 (almost 62) and have had 2 back and 2 neck surgeries from 1990 on so I'm almost getting used to it.

Little work done:

20260609_205026 by Ronald Halma, on Flickr

The 2 ones are glued, the other still loose and will mount on a later moment with and/or after rigging.

In any case, I hope the MRI shows what the problem is and that you won't have to go under the knife again. And it's no problem at all if you finish the ship a day late!
Cheers, Peter

I also have had a lifetime of unresolved issues with herniated discs and degenerative vertebrae (8 of them), so understand your pain.
Pain is no stranger to me... see my 'Pugwash Pegleg' pages on this forum!
Bless you.
