HMS ENTERPRISE by Keith 1:48 scale. New Kit from M.D.

Very nice Keith, you've now moved ahead of me.
Although I'm on last 6 gun deck beams everything slowed up a bit.....decided to punish myself morticing beams for carlings, sourcing pulleys/rope for steering mechanism which requires fitting rudder...hingeing gets soldered with hinge pins, blackened, fit & nailed, bunch of interdependent work plus....well....summer.

P.S. it seems Richard has vanished......anybody have any update ?

Wow Tim. I might have pulled a bit ahead of you, but no wonder. You are doing thins I dare not attempt! Such as rigging the steering gear and morticing the beams. My approach is these details will not be noticed and I will make more of a mess attempting it than if I just skipped them. Bravo to you! I used to have quite a lot of contact with Richard but he has gone quiet lately. I believe, sadly, he has some health problems. He is a regular contributor to this site, so maybe we will hear of him soon
 
I have now finished all the carlings for the gun deck and am now making a start on the ledges (2 x 2mm). Not much of the orlop or lower deck details will be clearly visible when complete and I'm not planning on planking any of the decks. (There are still the forecastle and quarter decks to come.)

Hi guys. Some photos showing the latest W.I.P. of the ledges and hatch comings for the gun deck. The only complaint I have so far with this amazing kit, is the gratings, which I'm not sure, but think are out of scale and a complete nightmare to construct. They are extremely brittle and no matter how careful, I have managed to break a significant number of them. They don't look too good, so rightly or wrongly I have decided to leave the remaining hatches minus the gratings. All the central ledges are done leaving the outer sections till last as I've realised I have made it quite difficult for myself by fitting the watewrway before the ledges, making it hard to get accurate lengths and a proper fit. Oh well, it's just going to take longer to do . . .

Every thing looking spot on Kieth. Yep my CAF kit also has those gratings and they are quite ridiculous to try and construct. They also are impossible to get the char off so come out dirty.

A quick question - How does your kit (which is impressively accurate) show how the cathead tails finish? Are they bolted to the underside of the deck beams?

Hi Keith and Jeff. Yep that makes a lot more sense. Goodwin also has the tails finishing off this way. I guess some more kit mod coming my way. Man this MD kit is awesome.

The ledges for the gun deck are now finished, together with the rider bits at the bow. Next, I think I might concentrate on the galley stove or the upper deck capstan or maybe something totally different. I'm now beginning to suffer from Mr. Grant Tyler's Ricochet Rabbit syndrome :). I'll keep it as a surprise until next time as I don't even know myself yet
