Good morning.
Just some more of the same- I installed the remaining cannon with breech lines……still have to rig 10 ……Eish. Total procrastination .

I took this pic to show my marvellous immaculate perfect alignment….. I can live with the multiple little inconsistencies however the arrow shows my middle grating and corresponding deck planks being a problem child . I can’t believe I haven’t noticed this - I hardly see this with the naked eye- Eish a redo coming up..

If there was no arrow ……… then there was no problem. Had anyone already reported that?
But now …… a re-do is necessary, Grant.
And for the rest, she is becoming more and more impressive with nice cannon riggings.

I don't see the problem. Some camera lenses cause distortion. It's also true that I'm a bit blind as a bat.

I'm sorry, but even after zooming in, I can't figure out what kind of huge mistake you made. The grating looks fine, and so do the planks. Could it be that the planks aren't completely aligned in the center?
I'm curious to see what this piece will look like after the correction.

Well, I can see how after all this time you missed it because I still don't see what error your arrow points to?? Is it the aft edge of the grate frame not over the deck support beam maybe?

Once you see something you'll never unsee it. Maybe also check the planks behind (to the stern) as well.

Good afternoon Peter. After this photo I saw the middle grate not being square to the other hatches etc. It is so marginal even after pointing it out Arlene cannot make out the discrepancy………If can unglue this easily I will fix it.

Hello Guys. Arlene (the Admiral) can’t see it either…..the centre grate is not square to the others and centre line. Ever so slightly. As I said to PV if I can unglue it without breaking it I will change it.

Hi Paul. A very true story. I don’t mind the small deviations in the Carlings as we won’t see these ……mostly , however this grating does affect the deck planks (as you mentioned) going back. Ahh how photos reveal the true story of my ship building skill…. Non the less I really enjoy my ship so far and even more so playing with her. (Sounds bad).

This weekend was a lazy one…..we only had all the kids and wives around for brunch this am….so…...plenty time to play in my shipyard.

I continued scratch building the chain pumps - WIP :
No crank handles yet, and I have used a straight bar to get all the brackets in line.

The four main square pillars are from the kit, however these were totally black with char. I have removed as much as I could before these started to loose scale and change shape. So dirty square pillars it shall be. I shaped and made the smaller fore pillars- I still have to make the stern ones.


The kit did not include sheaves so I decided to make the worst sheaves I have made to date…..my Blades and mind refuse to cooperate…… Added the outer sheaves on the fore pillars.


I still have to make the cranks. The connecting sleeves for the crank handles I am making by soldering brass tube to the connecting rods….plenty to go - clearly no colter pin.

The pumps are really coming along nicely, with all the customization you are giving them.

I tend to agree with Peter and Daniel, the misalignment you refer to is apparent to you but so subtle to be almost invisible to the rest of us.

Thank you Brad. Yea I am happy with them although my scratch detailing is not so accurate. I struggle with making these tiny little aspects- especially the brass work. I will get there one day…….in a galaxy far far away .

I soak the brass in vinegar for at least 24 hours so it tarnishes up. I then blacken once for 30sec and buff. Has mostly worked..

My scratch building details, especially brass work, needs some attention, however I am pretty chuffed how “Grants pumps” came out.

The pumps look great Grant! I have also had problems with blackening after soldering because of flux residues and I found the best thing to use was some alloy car wheel cleaner (acid type) from my local auto shop. Soak for 2 minutes, rinse with clean water and then dunk in 10% brass black for 1-2 minutes and rinse off.

Thank you indeed Paul. I still struggle to get my scratch details accurate. They always turn out to be more representative than exact, however from my Victory to now I am improving.....just a tad . I had a lot of fun making these pumps and cranks and for "Grants pumps" they look cool on my ship.

Good morning from a South Africa in mourning…..on Saturday the All Blacks (New Zealand rugby team) didn’t just beat the Boks (South African Rugby) they whipped our “ass”. @ConsNZ was definitely smiling .

Anyway, I did the waterways and margin plank on the upper quarter deck. I looks way to symmetrical for the style of the rest of the ship so hopefully a few irregular deck planks will break this.

That would be a tough one for me, there is so much beautiful architecture below the deck beams to cover it randomly will be tricky. Or maybe not.
