Wonderful work Grant, she looks incredible. Your comment about being easily visible makes a lot of sense. How many of us have spent a lot of time on fine out of sight detail, knowing it will never be seen, while muttering “well I’ll know it’s there”? Your approach makes way more sense .

Good morning from a happy SA. Yesterday we managed to hang on and beat the All Blacks (NZ rugby)…..whew .

Made some of the deck fittings and laid out a few planks to start getting an impression of the look and feel- my rule : anything I made on the gun deck must easily be visible as a look through.

Thank you very much indeed Roger. I am getting more encouraged with the erratic planking look as it was a bit of "let's see what happens as I go" approach. This can still backfire on me however if I stay with the less is more principle I may get lucky . I do have a motto....If you can't see it dont build it.

Dr Dockattner....your encouragement is sincerely appreciated. I am pretty "chuffed" with the look and feel and I am giving the little details a go for sure. My skill level when it comes to tiny things still leaves plenty room for improvement. Maybe one day I will detail like you guys in the scratch forum.

Good morning Ian. I do try...... . I am having a load of fun playing with this model. This kit is really cool as it gives one a lot of leeway to make scratch parts and to give it your own look.

Outstanding craftmanship. Absolutely beautiful and super skillful. (congratulations to the Springboks and SA. It was a good game on replay. At present we are in deep mourning. But please be warned of the projected onslaught that will happen in Jo-Burg. )

I have never seen a passenger plane come so low to a stadium........was very cool. I believe it was the NZ plane flown by a kiwi. Grant, From the days gone by, when I as a little boy with the school marched 5 miles to Eden Park sat cross legged near the sideline in the pouring rain to watch the AB's with the great Don Clark play the Springboks there is one thing I say. Here in NZ the greatest revalry in rugby has, and will, always be between our two nations. Losing to Aust is bad enough and grrrrr, but losing to the Springboks is an unforgiveable national rugby disaster. In some respects winning against the Sprinboks can almost be defined as being of greater importance than winning the world cup. Soweto will be interesting, sure Ill be up with pots of coffee watching. judging by our sport investigative journalism you guys will need to pull up socks. Cheers Grant. BTW, I live very close to an Airbase so judging by the way they fly those Lockheed C-130J Hercules aircraft it wouldnt surprise me if an NZ pilot flew that plane so low to terrorised the spectators. LMAO!

Checked with my “incredible LEGO” right angle measuring device and all is good. One or two of my carlings are out however these wil be covered…whew.

While laying out some planks and deck furniture on the forecastle, I thought it was time to let Ricochet Rabbit out.

I felt like playing with brass and some solder:

Made some scupper holes

Made the chimney on the stove:


My only disappointment was that my soldering was excessive ( I am a total clown when it comes to metal work ) and I couldn’t brass black this….. I tried but ended up using spray paint.
It needs to be seated properly - nothing is glued - a definite WIP.

Your brass work looks great. Good positioning of the scuppers too. Get it right the first time.....I must try that theory more often.

I think your brass work looks great! Sometimes my welding looks very good and at other times it looks like boogers and peanuts

Extraordinary work Grant! It looks like you rigged your cannon with a breeching rope that is actually long enough to be functional. According to what I've read, with the gun fully run in to the extents of the breeching rope, the muzzle should be about 3 feet inboard of the ceiling to give crew room to reload, yet I see sooooo many models with the guns fully run out and the breeching lines taut or with just a tiny amount of slack. Well done!

Sometimes there is noting wrong with black paint, Grant. For me it looks ok!

Thanks Ian. I failed with the one below the forecastle which is a little too far forward. . The instructions are very limited and I have been using Goodwins book "The construction and fitting of the sailing man of war" as a guide. This together with Claude AI, I get most of my scale and measurement......I just don't translate the measurements to my building sometimes.......

Good morning Jack. The kit provided Cherry wood. It is really cool to work with however it darkens over time (quite quickly) and is not my favourite. I changed my look and feel of the ship very early to a contemporary model because of this........almost came by default. What I do like is you can get different shades using stain, linseed oil and polyurethane.....

Thanks Brad. I'm learning as I go with metal work. I am very happy with my scuppers. I used a 3mm brass tube and the shaped a "sort of " flange with a Dremel and hammer. Got any Elk yet?

Thank you kindly Russ. I measure one cannon breach line to it fully reload position and then cut all the breach line to that measurement. I doubt it is exactly 3ft however certainly enough for reload.. The inhaul tackle falls are definitely too short as I just wrap them.........
