Wooden Deck Application

I am working on an old Revel model of the Thermopylae and am in the process of super detailing. I have purchased an aftermarket wooden deck from HiSModel (no adhesive backing). The guidance for application calls for PVA (samples did not stick wood to plastic), CA, and 5-minute epoxy.

Question #1: CA glue is perfect but does not provide the working time needed to get the everything aligned. Is there a super slow CA?

Question #2: The recommendation by HiSModel is 5-minute epoxy. However, it is thick and no matter how I spread it out there is seepage or a lumpy finish. Is there an elegant solution to this that attaches the deck leaving working time, no bubbles or lumps, and minimizes seepage and stains?

I have used Mig ultra glue matt, also Gorilla glue wood glue both give a little work time. In applying wood deck to plastic, sand the plastic deck to give a little tooth. I always stain the wood deck before gluing it to the plastic. MinWax as is my go to stain. Good luck on your build.

COB - I have some Evergreen plastic sheet, deck wastage, and the Gorilla wood glue - I will put together the sample and clamp it up. Thanks a million for the quick reply. I will report out in 24 hours or so. Thanks again.

There are also slow-curing CA glues out there. I have used Slo-Zap which gives maybe 30 seconds of positioning time. Might be something even slower out there.

I have used Gorilla wood glue without issue
I usually use a paint brush to apply the glue evenly after I have sanded the deck with 180 grit to give the glue something to attach to. I do let the glue on the plastic set for 20 minutes.

I then apply the same technique to the veneer underside and then carefully install the deck to plastic. It gives you time to make adjustments but is tacky enough to adhere.

I then press with my fingers from the middle to the edges smoothing the deck to its final position. I usually don’t have to use clamps and I allow the deck to cure for 24 hours. Checking for the veneer curling at the edges if it does. Then I would use tongue depressors and clamps.
