I liked the looks of this kit and the pictures of the completed model better than the Mantua kit. Also, it was larger scale so I thought it would be better to add extra detail I might want to do. I usually use more sizes of line than kits provide for the rigging. Also, I match the blocks to the different line sizes. Thus, I use lots of after model blocks and deadeyes. Therefore, I was not concerned about what rigging line or blocks would be provided. Finally, this kit was a lot cheaper than Mantua. Thus, I went ahead and bought the kit.
When the kit arrived, one box contains all the wood parts. This is very heavy with several types of wood, all of good quality and nicely packaged. The second box was not as heavy but stiff pretty hefty. It contained the cannons which are incredibly well cast, some photo etched parts and the decorative castings in resin. The resin casting are numerous and very well done. A layover sheet is provide so that the cannons placement can be exact. There is hundreds of steps detailed in the instructions with pictures of each step. There is 15 sheets of plans and the parts list that is included is staggering in itself. Definitely worth the price.
The blocks and deadeyes provided in the kit are very nicely crafted and I will be using some of them when they are proper for the lines size. There is an enormous amount of rigging line provided with the kit in lots of sizes, but most of it is in various colors that are not the brown, black or hemp color. Numerous sizes are provide but the sizes are not identified with a wrapper to tell you what is what. I am sure it is detailed somewhere in the parts list, but almost all of it will not be used when I rig the ship.
This is an expert level model kit and I am sure will make a tremendous model. The construction will keep you busy for a long time.
