Hello today my Yard Diary again:

Today tryed to refine the "inner lines" of the bulkheads and run straight into the question "Where does the line runs?" so I am really unshure where to place this important line...

...the hull's lines ends and there is no idea given to the bulkwalk been placed. Is there any helpfull hint to this quest?

Here my method to a line of dots pointed by the set square to it's 5mms point - than drawings short parallel lines becoming the parallel to the bent curved of the decks' top.


Also the WL-slots are constructed coloured in bright yellow wax pen to find them easily...

Hello friends,

during the last few days I glued together further bulkheads to be placed on A2 cardboard*, so these important parts aren't build (only) from several pices glued together.
Sorry, but there is little interesting to picture here.

The centerboard for the hull was added with further strengthening layers of doubled CWL in pink. The big s,lots for the 10×10mm stanchions were coloured in orange.



So these are the new developments in the yard.

*...so I purchased 1mm bookbinder's cardboard 420×594mm - hopefully 50 Sheets will do the job ...

I am no expert, just a hobbyist, for now following the drawings of Blom and Dik. I am now studying Ab’s book “Nicolaes Witsens Scheeps-Bouw-Konst open gestelt” to get more basic knowledge. What you come up with looks ok to me with one remark. Looking at one of your latest drawing, View attachment 633599the bowsprit seems to come in contact with the upper parts of the galleon. It should of course stay clear.

thanks for the helpfull hint - so I will have to Play arround Twitch the gallion and the edge of the bowspriet and the top of the stem post.

My Next step is to place the gun ports along Side the hull die to interfearence with my bulkheads. So the measurements we're taken from the Heinrich Winter's sideview


And now I have to deal with my VdV-drawing to her the placement historically correct:

The bowspriet and the cutwater


Hello colleauges,

today I dealt with the bowspriet's angle and the gallion's position.

I decided to place the bowspriet analog to the Winter's drawings into the edge between foremast and deck.

I measured the mast's Diameter from the Winter plan as 18mms in Diameter - and so assumed the bowspriet to 16mms Diameter.


Due to this I positioned the gallion with cutwater new. And by doing this the deepest corner of the opening for the rope is 19mms above CWL - so I try to get a geometrical figure to view onto my doubts:

Giving to us (19mms × 33scale) 627 mms or (627:283,1=) 2,21' or 24,4".


This is very little space and the ropes holding down the bowspriet will get very, very wet even on moderate sea.
What do the experts say to this?

Hi Chris.
The ropes getting wet must not have been a problem. Looking at a drawing of e.g. the Brederode shows them not very far above the cwl.
