Here's a safety tip to avoid bloodshed (or worse). If an Xacto knife rolls off your workbench don't close your legs to try to catch it.

Even in my short time at this hobby, I've managed to leave something for others ...and why I switched to these hexagonal handles a while back.

Recently my plank bender fell off the workbench and like an idiot I instinctively tried to catch it by the handle with my hand. But instead I caught it by the hot stem. You can bet I let it go and drop to the floor right quick. Now I’m healing from second degree burns on my left thumb and index finger. As it’s healing it leaks a little bloody fluid so there’s one or two blood spots on the Bounty. Last build I leaked a little from some kinda modeling injury (I’ve come to not bother how I get them, they just seem to happen) and got a couple of blood spots on my Mayflower. Ya thinks me would learn

I have found in the past, if your exacto is sticking out of your foot..... it's easy to locate. True fact

For your own safety, please use only very blunt exacto or other knives . May not be so good four your blood pressure, though.

Definitely have had a few xacto mishaps but they were nothing like the time I was drilling a tiny hole in a tapered topmast to attach a flag. Because the mast was so thin I had my finger behind it for support and managed to drill through my finger. Ouch.

I once tried putting extra pressure on mine - you guessed it, I pressed on the 'hot bit'!! DUHHH
