Sovereign of the Seas - Mantua by Brian

Found another part of this kit that is more or less useless for me, the parts are suppose to be soaked and bent around the dowel used for the bowsprit yard but they de-laminate as soon as they get wet so another work around was needed :) I used 4mm cherry strips left over.

I understand that the Mantua/Sergal instructions have you make yards which have octagonal portions at the center, but I believe this feature really was used starting with late 17th century vessels, and not one as early as the Sovereign, unless they were added as part of the refits made to the vessel after construction. The Lely painting has enough detail to show the yards as being round in cross section along the entire length of each yard.

Interesting, thank you Kurt

Morning chaps everything on hold as Manuta managed to omit some of the 8mm dowel for the main and fwd lower yards so there on order, but I can carry on with the shrouds when I receive some 60wt thread for the serving/seizing which should be today. So not a lot to see atm.

Hi Brian
This may be of no interest, but just in case, :) I think some of your blocks are rigged upside down. Easy to just drill holes in the right place rather than redo so the lines run over the would-be sheaves rather than the tail piece.
