Yes. I spent 20 years in Submarines as the Medical Department Representative. I loved the work! After I retired, I taught High School and University History. I'm now retired totally and love life!

lucky you i wanted to join the Royal Navy as an artificer or weapons officer when i left school but my eyesight held me back slightly colour blind! i am now a retired sub contractor Joiner. with arthritis in my knees .. i fell 20 feet off a badly erected scaffold.. never broke anything but I'm paying for it now I developed two bakers cysts because of it. I just build model ships now.

I was in the US Navy for 24 years and was never hurt. Then I was a teacher in Hartford, Connecticut and was beaten up by a student who hit me 25 times in my head. I have had balance problems ever since, as well as hearing difficulties. The balance problems caused me to fall repeatedly, breaking my left leg three times, my left knee once, my left hip (replaced). and many other injuries. It proved to me that civilian life is more dangerous than active military life during two major wars (Not really, but it makes for interesting conversation). Anyway, I spend my days building ship models, watching old reruns on television, and enjoying my wife's company.

That reminds me of when my wife and I were stationed in La Maddelena, Sardinia, Italy. It was a farming area. We awoke on our very first morning only to find a local bull looking into our bedroom bay window. Once the shock wore off, we found that he was friendly and "served" as the unofficial welcome committee. He became a friendly neighbor in our land.
