As I ran out of carving material to do for my fluyt build I decided to start a small side project.
I allways have been enchanted by the Van de Velde drawing of the ship "Huis Tijdverdrijf", a beautiful detailed stern drawing of a very nicely lined small two decker.

This ship was named after the family mansion of the family Witsen, mayor of Amsterdam and writer of the famous book about Dutch 17th century shipbuilding.

Van de Velde made this drawing to make one of his exquisite grisaille paintings.

As far I know there is no side or front view drawing of this ship which rules out a full reconstruction. I therefor decided to make a 3D stern reconstruction which I will build in a frame.
I bought an antique frame in which I will build tge model.

The both Van de Velde drawings I imported into Fusion 360 to reconstruct the stern shape.

and from this I made a drawing.

Good to see that you started this new project, Maarten. And you can do the carvings as a ‘Goed Tijdverdrijf’ of your ‘free time’ during your trip.;)
A promising start.
Regards, Peter
Hi Peter, thx. Certainly goed tijdverdrijf in between eating and drinking, cycling, hiking and sightseeing.

Really impressive work! The details on the lion carving look great, especially for something you’re working on during a trip.
Many thanks Hoppert. I only do my carving during holidays. At home no time due to work and building on the hull etc. It is a nice way to relax instead of reading a book.

What a splendid subject! I'm very interested to see how you will tackle this subject.
Geniet vab de vakantie!
